I have been making recordings for over 40 years. These were not always music, but rather snapshots of sound in my life. The sound of my mother cooking, or the traffic outside my grandmothers windows in the middle of the night. The sound of a mid-western state fair in the 1970's, with the sideshow barkers and carnies, or screaming children on a school playground. Dogs yelping. cats. birds. rustling leaves. and music.
Popular music has always been there, marking time with fad and fashion.
But, I have always been fascinated with the machines, the mediums, the instruments, the processes and the experiments. I take on the new technology, but never throw away the past.
In the early 1980's John Gatewood and I met while trying to form a band. That did not pan out. Yet we were bound together by common interests. He met my musical friends and I met his. Most were incompatible with our unspoken vision, but we knew what we liked. John knew Mel from school, and we three started improvising. Trip & Squeezer developed out of jam sessions with John and I. MelTones are the creations of Mel Fina.
Cryptoporticus was the combination of Mel and John and whoever.
This is an outlet for some of those recordings.
